IRC conducting taxpayer survey

Sam Koim

THERE are people who register with the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) and get their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) but do not operate any business, says commissioner-general Sam Koim.
Koim said there were businesses operating in areas where the commission had no office.
The IRC is conducting a taxpayer survey to establish which businesses are operating with a TIN, their location and the types of business.
“That’s the project we are doing and we will verify and build that database,” Koim said.
The information will be shared with provincial governments.
Koim said a taxpayer services project which involved awareness would also be rolled out soon.
“We would like to make sure that everybody is aware of the value of paying taxes and the benefits there are in paying taxes and the punishment of not paying taxes,” he said.
“We will use a number of channels to reach taxpayers. One of those channels is the partnership with provincial governments.
“We are doing content development. We have some external support from the Australian Taxpayer office.”

  • That is total garbage. Government is not doing enough so now we will be forced to pay tax that is never been paid in the past 45 years?????

  • I think its best IRC conducts its surveys with foreign owned trade stores first esp the Asians. These people are tax evaders. For instance, if you do a shopping for K100 and want a cash back of K20, their sales register will automatically register K20 as sales and K100 as Cash. This means Tax is applicable on the K20 and not the K100.

IRC need to look into this kind of tactics aliens are using to evade tax.
