WORK culture is one area that the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) is working on to improve efficiency in the organisation, commissioner general Sam Koim says.
Koim said this at the tax agents liaison meeting in Port Moresby yesterday.
“Since I took office, we have initiated a lot of projects,” Koim said. “Few of those projects have been achieved and some are still at their infancy stages.
“We hope to achieve them before my term is up in 2025,” he said.
“There are some exciting things that are happeneing.
“Some of you have witnessed them some haven’t. We are also trying to change the work culture but some of the work culture are there.”
He said some changes were already taking place at IRC.
“We have also changed the GST (goods and services tax) refund management team as of last week.
“You will receive some notices on that. We are trying to improve our present systems and processes now to gain some efficiency by introducing constructive changes.
“We hope that in the near future when all of these things come to fruition, we will address a lot of your challenges.
“We are also getting the developers of Cisco System.
“The expert is coming in two or three weeks time so he will help us address some of the concerns.
“We were unable to do that two years ago because of Covid so we hope that is addressed soon.”
Meanwhile, he said revenue collection by IRC had improved.
“Massive increase in tax collection. A bit of luck in the oil and gas space.”
