Isifu probing doctor’s death, wants explanation

WEWAK MP Kevin Isifu has urged the management of the East Sepik health authority to explain the passing of a doctor in Wewak last Tuesday.
Isifu, in a statement yesterday, claimed that the hospital’s emergency division was manned by junior, inexperienced nursing and medical staff on the night late Dr Lawrence Sogoromo was admitted.
“I am calling on the hospital management to explain how and why the doctor died and explain why the hospital emergency division is manned by junior, inexperienced nursing and medical staff at the time Sogoromo was admitted,” Isifu said.
“If there is no proper explanation then the Government and administration should check the qualification and experience of the senior medical and nursing staff of the hospital and the top administration including the chief executive officer (Mark Mauludu) and director nursing.
“The hospital already has many complaints of preventable and unnecessary deaths and if it warrants so, there should be an inquiry into the management of the hospital as to the cause of late Sogoromo’s death on Jan 21.”
