A MAN from East Sepik has been charged with wilful murder for allegedly stabbing another man who died later in hospital in Wewak, according to police.
The incident happened on May 26 and the accused, Lens Sauru Bau, was scheduled to appear in court yesterday.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said Bau, from Muschu Island outside Wewak town, had accused the deceased of having an affair with his wife.
He identified the deceased as Israel Kalbanok, from Sup village on Muschu Island.
Supt Beli said Kalbanok was at his home when he was approached and attacked with a knife in front of his family on May 26.
He urged people in the province to report matters at the station for police to investigate instead of taking them into their own hands.
“Allow the police or village authorities to look into your concerns or suspicions,” Supt Beli said.
“If you think you have a case against someone, let the system deal with it.
“Otherwise you can become accused of another crime.”
