NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has urged people living on islands off Port Moresby not to dispose of plastics and non-biodegradable waste into the sea.
Parkop said this to locals on Fisherman Island recently on the importance of protecting marine life. He said the National Capital District was continuing its commitment to conserving and protecting the environment in the city and around Motu Koita villages and islands, including its beaches, the ocean and reefs.
The National Capital District Commission in partnership with Total Waste Management, will build a waste plant outside Roku village for decomposing waste.
The mangrove planting and the clean-up initiative was the culmination of events and activities planned throughout this month to increase awareness on protecting the environment.
