ISLANDS Petroleum Ltd (IPL) has donated school equipment worth more than K50,000 to the Milfordhaven Primary School in Lae.
The fundraising drive was the initiative Islands Petroleum Ltd in partnership with the school, parents, communities and other businesshouses.
IPL manager Shehab Das said the company was helping other hospitals and schools in terms of fundraising to support their operations.
He said the initiative was to enhance the level of learning for students and to help the school provide opportunities for students.
Das while thanking other major sponsors in the fundraising drive told the students, teachers and parents that education started at home.
“Children learn everything from the parents and their benchmark lay within their parents,” he said
“Our character and behaviour towards our children will go a long way to shape that of our children.”
Das said children built good characters based on high moral value and standards and good character was more important than academic excellence.
Secretary to Lae MP John Rosso Neil Elleery thanked the IPL management for the initiative and said the way out of poverty was through education.
“Understanding the roles that everyone is playing in the community can pave way for better development in human resources,” he said.
Milfordhaven Primary School principal Yelo Amu said the presentation was significant and would go towards helping to build infrastructure.
