GULF Isou started their 2024 Digicel ExxonMobil Cup preparations on a good note as their team one beat Central Dabaris team one 16-10 during a trial match at Sir John Guise Stadium on Saturday.
In the lead-up game, Dabaris team two beat Isou team two 20-10.
Isou coach Roger Laka told The National after the game that he was satisfied with his men’s performance. He said there was positive signs especially in their defence.
“Definitely, I’m satisfied with the performance of the boys,” Laka said.
“We worked really hard for the past seven weeks and our focus has been on defence all along.
“The young players really stuck to our structure and that’s what I wanted to see from them. However, we still have things that we need to improve on and we will work on them during the month.”
Laka said ball handling and discipline on the field were some of the issues he would address before the season kicks off next month.
“Our ball security and discipline is something that needs to be addressed. We gave away some easy penalties to the Dabaris,” Laka said.
“Also, our attack wasn’t really there. We were focused on defence in the past seven weeks and not much on our attack so for the second-half of preseason we will be focusing on attack and our structure.”
