Isou, Warriors face off

A BOUYANT PRK Gulf Isou face the Chimbu Warriors in the second round of the Digicel Cup on Sunday with coach Colin Geno’s side confident of another strong showing.
The Isou recorded a shock 13-12 win over the defending premiers Lae Snax Tigers in Port Moresby while the Warriors were outclassed 24-2 by the Agmark Gurias in Kokopo in contrasting clashes.
The Gulf side head into the fixture slightly favoured but the Warriors, who returned to the competition after an absence of more than 20 years, are still an unknown quantity and are expected to have good support at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Enga Mioks are set to roll out the welcome mat for the Agmark Rabaul Gurias in their match at Aipus Oval in Wabag.
The Enga provincial government-sponsored franchise and the Gurias opened their 2018 season campaign with wins over the Bintangor Goroka Lahanis and Warriors but the East New Britons have struggled in the Highlands and Sunday’s tussle will be another tough out for coach Steven Nighingale’s side.
The Mioks will look to unleash exciting back Yabara Kuku off a solid platform set by forwards in captain Supa Kokote, former Hunters squad member Eddie Daffa and prop Kot Kerowa. The Gurias have former Kumuls back-rower David Loko as well as hard-running ball carriers in Bernard Goma and Kingston Paul. Round 2 Fixtures: Sun, April 15 – Lae Tigers v Hela Wigmen, Gulf Isou v Chimbu Warriors, Enga Mioks v Agmark Gurias, Waghi Tumbe v Goroka Lahanis, Mendi Muruks v Port Moresby Vipers.
