PARENTS and students in Southern Highlands are confused as to whether or not the province was included in the government’s tuition fee free education policy budget.
Some schools were insisting that they be paid fees and had reportedly refused to register students who did not pay.
Parents who turned up at some high schools, primary and elementary schools were told that fees had to be paid before students could be registered.
The parents said they were told by head teachers that the government had not allocated funds to the school for free education.
Student Miseck Asaro said it was common knowledge that students doing elementary to Grade 10 would not pay school fees. However, during enrolment last week, parents were told to pay the fees.
He said that was unfair and misleading because parents had not anticipated that.
