LEO Parua says he was delighted to have won The National’s weekly masthead K250 prize money.
“It is a pleasant New Year present. It is extra money for me to buy goods for my family,” he added.
Parua said although he was an avid reader of the newspaper, but “I have not entered the contest for quite a long time”.
“I entered the competition three months ago. But, this time I won,” he said.
“It is really good to win during a festive period,” he said, adding that he loved the way The National presented the news.
Parua lives with his family in Gordon.
Another winner, Miriam Duaba from Western was one of the four lucky winners of last week’s The National Masthead competition.
The 45-year-old mother of one said that she was a keen reader of the news and enjoyed reading the newspaper and decided to enter the competition just for fun.
“Whether I win or lose, it didn’t matter because the important thing was that I was reading the newspaper and was updated with what was happening around me,” she said.
Duaba said she never thought she would win so she had not planned on how she would spend the prize money.
However, Duaba said she would share with her family and friends.
“Maybe I’ll buy sago and fish or some meat,” she said.
Another winner, Gabi Lofena, from Rigo in Central, got lucky with his second entry to The National masthead competition.
His first entry was unsuccessful but he was all smiles when he turned up at The National office in Port Moresby to claim his prize from his second entry into the competition.
The 28-year-old was one of last week’s lucky winners.
He said that he would spend the prize money to buy New Year gifts for his friends and families.
