It’s time our leaders step up

Letters

THE current saga about the Opposition’s attempted hijacking of parliament and the subsequent legal battles portray a gloomy picture about the nation’s political landscape.
But behind the two forces battling within the corridors of power are the powerful economic ideologies that each group represents.
The Opposition represents interests of foreign corporate exploiters that think of plundering the nation’s abundant natural resources using a weak political system.
Their dream is to make their shareholders filthy rich, while the citizen suffer.
The Government on the other hand represents the nation’s interest.
Its chief aim is to gain maximum benefit for the nation while ensuring the investors gain a fair return for their investment.
The Government, under Prime Minister James Marape made some bold and game-changing decisions for the good of our country.
But for the greedy and exploitative foreign conglomerates and their spin doctors, the Marape’s decisions were a threat to their agenda.
They are trying everything within their power to remove Marape.
What’s going in the Opposition camp is a testament to this.
In history, individuals with wealth and power such as the Medici family in Italy, the Rothschild family and many others used their power and influence to remove governments that was threatening their interests.
Even in international politics, the United States of America used its political and economic might to support friendly governments and overthrow regimes that did not serve its interest.
This happens in many third world countries as well.
In Papua New Guinea, it happened in the past.
Conzinc Riotinto Australia supported the then prime minister Sir Julius Chan with money and helicopters to flush out the rebels on Bougainville during the crisis.
It is happening now in our country.
Barrick Niugini Ltd is rumoured to flush cash to the opposition.
As the leaders reconvene today in the court-recalled parliament sitting, when a possible motion of no confidence could be moved against the Government.
Above everything, MPs should ask themselves the following question: Whose interest am I representing? Who am I fighting for? What is my mandate as an elected representative of the people? What will be the consequence of my decision for the economic future of this great nation? Am I fighting for the nation’s interest or foreign corporate interests? Am I a change maker and destiny shaper of the nation or simply fighting to fill up pockets? Do I want to leave the nation better than how I found it?
Leaders in both camps need to think, especially loose particles in the Opposition who are simply there to make quick bucks.
Who is there for their personal gain? Who is there to pass time?
Who are the political prostitutes who have done nothing for their electorates?
Can our leaders sell the soul of the nation and economic future for pittance?
Is it forgivable when some of our elected leaders put a brazen face and support foreign interests to elect a government that will wreck the nation and allow foreign interests to plunder our nation’s treasures?
What is needed now, when the nation is at the economic crossroads is for leaders to think, be clear-minded and visionary.
We need leaders who are true to their duty as the needle is to the pole.
We need men whose conscience is stick to higher principles, men who are willing to die than sell our nation for pittance.

  • My friend Simon D-thank you for this beautiful insight.

PNG is no longer living in stone/iron age—this is 22nd Century and a cross-road between Computer Age and Space Age. It is unfortunate that even our so-called political bureaucrats are so colonial based with no vision and knowledge of what time we are living in.
Bunch of hypocrites-holding 400 years old KJV Bible in one hand and selling People’s Trust bestowed to them in the other to them foreign exploiters. God of our fathers-Yaweh is already raising a New GENARATION OF DAVIDS in our Nation!!!

Marape and his warriors will NOT REST until PNG is RESQUED completely out from the domination of Uncircumcised Foreigners!

  • As Papua New Guineans, we must put our country first and our own ego and greed last.

We must make sure we vote out all the greedy, corrupted and power hungry politicians out in 2022.

  • Simon Davision

I agree with you. Well stated. I hope the corrupt politicians at Opposition side read these article. They taught that we Papua New Guineans are Dump.

  • these so-called corrupt leaders who know who they seem to pretend that they are saints trying to rescue this country. 10 million people trusted PMJM to lead this country while challenging all odds to prosperity.

  • Wan bel stret Simon na ol narapela commendators. 40 years plus is long time enough for us PNGeans to stand up on our own and develop our resources. God bless PMJUM – Take back PNG from the multinational giants wanting more benefits for themselves. If God is for us who can be against us.
