It’s time we change our public service

Letters

WHEN will the responsible State ministers of get enough courage to deal with our failed public service?
Some public servants have failed the people of this country in many ways.
Some are never at work and haven’t been for years while some are dead but are still on the payroll.
We have seen Education Minister Jimmy Uguro and his team weeding out fake teachers and it is high time Public Service Minister Joe Sungi step up his game.
Many in the public service are not qualified to be in their positions.
They are enjoying the benefits that they don’t deserve and continue to watch other people suffer.
The State needs to set a termination date at the end of next year for all public servants.
All positions should be reassessed and all unnecessary positions should be cancelled.
All of them should reapply for their jobs, international employment agencies should be engaged by the State to make relevant position recommendations.
Implement key performance indicators so that at the end of each month, all rehired public servants are assessed by their respective work performance.
This is not a unique idea, its common sense and a global practise except here in the “wantok” world.
