THE Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) donated relief supplies last weekend in response to the flood and landslide that affected parts of the country.
Japanese ambassador Watanabe Nobuyuki said the supplies include 95 tents, 570 blankets, 10 plastic sheets, 570 sleeping pads, eight water purifiers, and 400 portable jerry cans.
“Japan and PNG have strong ties in historic, political, economic and in the humanitarian field as well.
“Natural disasters are unforeseen occurrences and both countries are prone to it any time.”
Nobuyuki passed his condolences to those who lost their loved ones through this tragedy and hope the relief goods will help restore their lives.
The second batch will arrive tomorrow (today).
National Disaster Centre (NDC) acting director Lusete Mana said these goods were not just emergency relief provision, but also were token of friendship of both countries, showing true spirit of partnership in times of need.
“The PNG Defence Force and the NDC will distribute the supplies to East Sepik, Gulf, Chimbu and Enga in alignment with its well-thought-out distribution plan.”
