THE Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) has come on board again to help PNG Power Limited (PPL) improve its planning and operation of the country’s electricity system.
JICA had, over the years, delivered on a number of projects nationwide to sustain and improve PPL’s capacity to supply electricity to its consumers.
PPL acting chief executive officer Nememiah Naris said Japan’s assistance had been enormous “and I thank the Japanese people and government for that”.
In Port Moresby yesterday, Jica PNG office chief representative Matsuoka Hideaki and his team of officers presented equipment and items worth K250,000. These equipment and items were necessary for the maintenance of transmission lines and sub-stations.
Naris said the technical cooperation project started last year and was continuing. Japanese experts had been working with their PNG colleagues to roll out the project.
He said 20 PPL technical personnel went to Japan this year for training.
Hideaki said: “The project for the improvement of planning and operation of power system is a technical cooperation project which started in March 2022 and will end in March 2025.”
