THE Japanese government will continue to help Papua New Guineans with scholarships to boost human resources development in the country, Ambassador Hiroharu Iwasaki said.
Iwasaki said the scholarships were in line with the PNG government’s priorities as announced in the 2012 budget.
“Human resource development, being a priority for nation building, will continue to have the support and assistance of the Japanese government through the awarding of annual scholarships,” he said.
He said this would be through the awarding of the Japanese government’s annual scholarships to students in PNG to pursue further education “whether it is in the academic or technical applications in various fields and the students’ enrichment of their know-
ledge and experience”.
Iwasaki said his government’s aid agency, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, had continued to successfully disperse volunteers in various roles in education, health and the local development through PNG with 50 volunteers this year imparting knowledge and skills, as well as using their expertise to help the people of PNG.
The event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, members and executives of the PNG government and representative of international bodies in PNG.
