JAPANESE Ambassador Satoshi Nakajima was viewing a new scanning machine in Kimbe hospital, West New Britain (WNB), yesterday when it was hit by a blackout.
Two surgical operations in the midst were also disrupted and the hospital’s generator was also out.
“This is not good. I will try to help resolve some of this hospital’s challenges,” he said in response to the blackout.
Surgical officer Thomas Pangan said: “The blackout has touched the heart and concern of the envoy.
“We are using torchlights to continue with the surgery.
“We conduct about 100 various surgical operations a month.”
Nakajima is on a two-day tour in WNB to meet Japanese International Cooperation Agency volunteers in the hospital and Gigo Primary School.
