VOLUNTEERS from Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) were sent to teach in two schools in Central last week.
They are Masa Todaka, Shota Uchiyama and Kento Suzuki.
They were dispatched to Sogeri on Aug 31 to take up their volunteer assignments as teachers at the Sogeri Primary School and Iarowari Agro Technical Secondary School.
Jica, in a statement, said each has two years assignment terms in the country and are expected to contribute their valuable expertise in teaching mathematics, science, English and agriculture to the students of Sogeri.
The volunteers also had the opportunity to meet Central Governor Rufina Peter last Wednesday.
Peter welcomed the volunteers and commended Jica for the resumption of its volunteer programme in PNG.
The Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) Programme is run by the Jica.
Jica is the development agency of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) of the Japanese government.
The Jica volunteers have been around PNG since 1980, fulfilling their roles as grassroots ambassadors who share their expertise to remote communities.
So far, 800 volunteers had been sent out to PNG, supporting diverse areas in sustainable development.
