PARENTS of students attending schools in Morobe will be required to pay fees again this year, says provincial education programme adviser Keith Jiram.
Jiram told The National that parents would have to pay a certain component of fees to the school on top of what the government was paying as tuition fee-free funding.
Jiram said parents had to “keep the schools running until the TFF funds are received” and to “assist schools that receive TFF funding well below what they anticipate.”
“The provincial education board met in December and have agreed to have parents pay some fees,” Jiram said.
Parents of children in elementary schools will pay K100 per child, those in primary schools will pay K200 per child, those in secondary schools will pay K300 per child and those whose children attend Technical Vocational Education Training schools will pay K250 per child.
Meanwhile, he said all teachers were expected to resume duties on Jan 22. Students are expected to begin classes a week later.
