THE provincial health authority in Jiwaka is urging its MPs to assist in lifting the standard of healthcare services in the province.
Authority chief executive officer Thaddeus Turi made the call yesterday when commissioning five health centres to be used for Covid-19 quarantine and isolation in the province.
He said Jiwaka had been hit hard by the pandemic, restricting people’s movement and business activities. The provincial government under Governor William Tongamp allocated K1.7 million for the Covid- 19 operation.
Anglimp-South Waghi MP Joe Kuli gave K630,000.
He said the lack of support from leaders was a problem.
“We have been doing our best to provide quality healthcare to the people,” he said.
“(But) how can we operate with zero support on the ground?
“We need support to progress the authority. My appeal to the MPs is to support health in the province.”
The Jiwaka MPs are Tongamp, Kuli, Jimi MP Wake Goi and North Waghi MP Fabian Pok.
“Jiwaka is a province of its own and we have to make health and education a priority,” he said.
