A BASIL Jofari double saw Bougainville beat Morobe United 3-0 win at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday.
The return of David Passam as head coach for Bougainville saw a quiet first half from both sides with attempts on goal limited for a 0-0 scoreline at halftime.
Jofari opened the scoring two minutes into the second half after a good build-up from the midfield. United’s Bruce Tiampo and Jeremy Yasasa found little chances to score with Bougainville picking up their pace in transitional play.
A corner kick from Gebby Yanum found Bougainville skipper Abel Redenut who scored his side’s second goal before a break in United’s defence saw Jofari complete his double to seal the match. Following a 2-9 thrashing by Lae City, Bougainville head coach David Passam was pleased with his side’s turnaround over the weekend.
“I think we went alright and we came with a game plan to keep possession a little bit longer,” he said.
“We noticed our midfielders were not getting into space to give the ball and in the second half when they were able to find space for the front three, it worked out for us.”
Meanwhile, Gulf Komara registered their second-straight win with a 2-1 victory against Morobe Wawens. A goal from youngster Pala Paul gave Gulf a 1-0 lead at halftime before teammate Ilagi Geno added to their score.
Wawens’ Jason Bendi scored a consolation goal.
