A JOURNALIST cum lawyer plans to give back to the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) for supporting and believing in him.
Maivo Lafanama, 33, from Eastern Highlands and Manus, recently got admitted to the National and Supreme Court as a lawyer.
The son of former Lufa MP Petii Lafanama, Maivo is currently NBC’s chief sub editor.
He had told The National last year during his graduation from the University of Papua New Guinea, that he had wanted to get into law school after Grade 12, but did not meet the required grade point average.
He instead took up journalism at the Divine Word University in Madang.
“I’ve been with NBC for the last 10 years,” he said.
He said five of those years were spent as a court reporter.
He acknowledged NBC management for giving him the opportunity to achieve his dream when he was accepted in 2018.
“It was fully supported and sponsored by NBC, it was tough, especially when you are working and have a family to support,” he said.
He explained that he was supposed to graduate in 2022, but had to go back to the newsroom due to it being an election year which is why he graduated in last year.
