JT Super Nines set for kick off in Moresby

THE annual JT Super Nines Cup rugby league tournament kicks off tomorrow with women’s and Under-20 teams competing at Moresby South Stadium.
Tournament director Bagelo Solien said most of the teams had yet to submit their team identification photos and master lists for entry into the stadium.
“It is important that all team managements comply with this by 4pm on Tuesday (today) or face the consequences,” he said.
“We are doing this to discourage teams from cheating by using more than 18 players and playing under someone else’s name which is unfair.
“Historically, men have not done such, only some women.”
“The women’s and U20 teams are confirmed to play their matches from March 2-7 while the men’s sides will do battle from March 8-13, ending with the finals and presentation of awards.”
Solien said major sponsor and Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko would officiate during the opening of the minor divisions.
He said the women’s and U20 divisions were just as important as the men’s challenge as they were the future of rugby league.
Solien encouraged teams to play in the true spirit of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
