Judge’s decision commended

Letters

IN any activity, whether it be sport, church, school, hospital, etc, team work plays an integral part in getting any type of job done.
The decision taken by Chief Judge Sir Gibbs Salika to get judges to work together in pair or as a team on a single court track must be commended.
It is an effective way to fast track court matters and deliver justice in a timely manner without much delay.
With national election petitions no longer taking any prominence in the courts, the arrangements of having two judges working in tandem must continue.
The chief judge has honoured his words, “to fast track court matters and reduce the backlog of reserved decisions”.
Sir Gibbs made this remark in February at the opening of 2019 Legal Year.
It is an encouraging sign for the courts and the public, when a reserved decision matter is listed on the court’s daily listing, when two judges work in tandem over a period of time.
I hope such arrangements expand for a longer period until the respective court tracks, are cleared of its backlog of reserved decisions.
Essentially many ordinary people have waited for years to be served justice and the response from the chief judge and the courts will surely give them some hope while waiting on their reserved decisions.
The actions of the chief judge, does goes to show he is serious about improving the courts processes and it further complements the prime minister’s slogan of “Taking back PNG”.
