Judicial staff participate in training of trainers course

Papua New Guinea Centre for Judicial Excellence (PNGCJE) and Pacific Judicial Strengthening Initiative (PJSI) hosted a training-of-trainers workshop from March 4-8 in Port Moresby.
The workshop was opened by executive director John Carey, and was attended by 17 members of PNGCJE, Magisterial Services and National Judicial Staff Services corporate and registry.
It was facilitated by PJSI technical director Dr Livingston Armytage.
PNGCJE was established in 2010 through an agreement between the chief justice, chief magistrate and Department of Justice and Attorney-General secretary.
It was established for delivering structured training programmes for judges, magistrates, court officers and other officers of the law and justice sector agencies that play a part in the court process. It was to build PNGCJE’s capacity to manage and deliver judicial training, develop presentation skills in applying effective techniques of adult learning and introduce staff to PJSI’s trainers’ toolkit.

It was one of many workshops facilitated by PJSI in the Pacific.
Arabella Owen, programme officer for the law and justice sector for PMGCJE, said: “This has been an enlightening workshop that has provided me with a better understanding in how to organise and deliver judicial education and training.”
The initiative is funded by New Zealand ministry of foreign affairs and trade which has supported promotion of rule-of-law across the Pacific.
