Juffa condemns silence over rape of girl, 7

Northern Governor Gary Juffa says the silence of leaders and the media over the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Kavieng is deafening.
He said yesterday that the leaders and media had failed to condemn the rape and murder of Rose Kimberly, a seven-year-old elementary student in Kavieng, by three men who have since been arrested.
“It was given very little attention that no one said anything about it, no leaders condemned it, is deplorable,” Juffa told The National.
“We are becoming desensitised, we are becoming dehumanised to these horrible acts of crime, to our most-vulnerable people.
“I truly condemn this. We really need to revisit the laws that protect our children and how we can put in place the necessary mechanisms, so that we can be able to afford them better protection. How did this happen to this innocent child? Three people brutally raped and killed a seven-year-old child.
“This should be causing shockwaves throughout the entire country. We need to stand up and say something is wrong here, and what we can do to fix this problem.
“It’s a horrible situation that needs immediate attention.
“It comes at a time when Papua New Guinea’s new parliament has an absence of female representation. It’s appalling, it’s shocking and something needs to be done about it.”
