A YOUNG Jugu outfit maintained their win streak after recording their eight straight victory of the season in the National Capital District Volleyball Association on Saturday.
The round-8 fixture of the men’s A grade division at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre saw Jugu topple Telikom three sets to one (3-1) to remain on top of the NCDVA ladder.
Coach Alex Gima was impressed with the way his men handled the fourth-placed Telikom despite having no reserves.
“The majority of the players were absent so we only had the same six players complete the game without substitutions,” Gima said after the victory.
“Winning 3-1 in sets was impressive especially since we had no one in the reserves.”
After scooping the first two sets, Jugu faltered losing the third frame 25-14.
“The boys were over confident after the second set,” Gima said.
“They slumped in third with unnecessary errors and poor plays.”
But Telikom despite the third set showing could not build off it in the fourth frame and fell to a resurgent Jugu who claimed it 25-22.
Gima credited the win to his players’ ability to refocus on key moments and to hold their nerve on service and execution at the net.
“Setter Steven John and hitters Alipet Ani and Mauri Sinna orchestrated the game well for boys to get the win.”
