THE Bisini softball diamonds is set to come alive on Saturday as the junior competition gets underway.

A development programme undertaken by the Port Moresby womens softball association is introducing a tee ball competition involving Under-10s and a mixed Under 16 contest.

The tee ball competition will pitch off at 8am followed by the Under 16 matches.

Two weekends of trials for the Under 16 competition has generated great interest among children, who following their parents and other senior players to the field.

Four teams will do battle in the Under-16 competition with Stingerz fielding two teams, Chebu/Yokomo/Bears combined team and United Sisters/Admiralty.There will be two rounds of competition before the finals on March 22.

POMSWA president Jenny Paak said they had initially planned an all girls competition but decided to turn it into a mixed one because there was also great interest from the boys.

“We had to come up with this idea as there were also little boys who follow their mothers to the field on Saturdays so why not get them to play,” Paak said.

Paak said the association was seriously looking at promoting the code in search of new and exciting talents.

The association is hopeful of securing a sponsor to help with the administration of the competition next year.
