JUSTICE Panuel Mogish has called on the media
to continue to report with responsibility, ensuring accuracy in its dissemination of information to public.
He said the recent days – since Dec 12 – had been difficult times, therefore, the media’s reporting of preceding matters were important that they were done with a lot of responsibility and accuracy.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony for the new Public Prosecutor Pondros Kaluwin, Mogish said such occasions, although small, were important.
He said the important work of the Office of the Public Prosecutor was to keep tabs that law and order was upheld for the welfare of the people.
Mogish also called on
the appointing authorities
of such office-holders to stress stability when making new appointments.
The judge in-charge of
the criminal track at the National and Supreme Court also called on the government to ensure that the remuneration packages for lawyers joining the government such as those within the Pubic Prosecutors office were attractive.
Mogish was reiterating earlier comments made by Kaluwin and his predecessor Camillus Sambua on the issue of attractive remuneration package for lawyers in the public service.
“The government must be true to its work … true justice is for the (employment) packages to be good,” he said.
Mogish was himself a public prosecutor prior to becoming a judge.
