ONE of the country’s most challenging engineering projects will cost around K110 million and involves local contractors, says Works Secretary David Wereh.
The contract for the construction of the Wasa Bridge in Kandep, Enga, was signed by the chairman of the Central Supply and Tenders Board, Dr Ken Nangan, Wereh and managing director of Tri-Civil Pacific Limited Nickson Laime.
The company will build the bridge over 100 metres of water-logged land. Wereh said it was a challenging project and Tri-Civil Pacific Limited was selected to do it.
“The Wasa Bridge is the most challenging project to be undertaken by local engineers and contractors,” he said.
“We are trying to build a bridge over 100 metres of wetland.”
Kandep MP Alfred Manase thanked Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for the commitment he made last year to fund the construction of the bridge.
“It is 2018 and we now sign the contract for the construction of the bridge after waiting and suffering by the people of Kandep, Hela, Enga and SHP for over 25 years,” he said.
“It is a relief for me and my people as we will now have the road. It is a major road connecting Hela, Enga and SHP.”
