VICE-minister for National Planning and Tewae-Siassi MP Dr Kobby Bomareo has presented K3.2 million to Kumul Telikom Holdings Limited (KTHL) for the setting up of telecommunications infrastructure in his electorate.
Dr Bomareo was accompanied by representatives of Tewai-Siassi administration and the Morobe administration to give the money to KTHL yesterday.
KTHL will build two additional towers to complement the four existing ones it already operates in the district.
KTHL will service and upgrade the new towers as part of an agreement with the district office.
The district office will retain ownership of the new towers.
Two other towers will be relocated to size up with the Telikom network that runs through Siassi to Kimbe in West New Britain.
This will now benefit the people of Tewae-Siassi in terms of internet coverage and also allow them to have access to EMTV by downloading the app and watching news and other content on their smart phones.
“In every aspect of development, communication has to be connected as well,” Dr Bomareo said.
The MP’s delegation will also meet with KTHL officials to explore various telecommunications services and solutions taking advantage of the new towers once they are available for use.
Telecommunications infrastructure development is a key priority area for the Government.
