K327mil put into getting Moresby ready for Apec

A massive K327 million has been invested on infrastructure developments, particularly roads, in Port Moresby, in preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Leaders’ Summit in November, according to the National Capital District Commission.
Acting city manager Ravu Frank said the projects were funded from various sources, some at no cost to both the city commission and the government.
Frank said infrastructure developments included:

  • K70 million Poreporena Freeway rehabilitation project funded by China;
  • K40 million Independence Boulevard, also funded by China;
  • K10 million Frangipani/Hibiscus roundabouts funded by Star Mountain Plaza;
  • K77 million Ela Beach road and development funded through a loan from the Bank South Pacific;
  • K27 million Stanley Esplanade also funded through a BSP loan;
  • K17 million Independence Drive funded by the city commission and the government;
  • K20.1 million Hohola roads reconstruction funded by Star Mountain Plaza;
  • K34 million Scratchley Road rehabilitation funded by China; and,
  • K1.9 million minor Apec works on roads leading into hotels that will be used by Apec delegations.

“Most of the projects are expected to be completed before the end of October,” Frank said, “which would be in time for the Apec leaders’ summit in November.
