A TOTAL of K37,000 and three cows were paid last week by a businessman in Jiwaka to the relatives of a man who died in car accident in Lae earlier this year.
Mireban Enterprises Ltd owner Andrew Rumba said the cash and cows were given to the relatives of the victim, from Jika tribe in Western Highlands, to foster peace and understanding.
Rumba presented the money and cows at his Polga village in Anglimp-South Waghi and said although the accident was caused by a Western Highlander he wanted to clear his name and ensure good will between his people and the Jika tribesman.
Rumba said he wanted to maintain a peaceful outcome for the grieving relatives and those involved in the accident.
He thanked the Jika tribal leaders for accepting his invitation and receiving the items and money.
“With understanding and peace the community and society that we live in will see change,” he said.
Rumba added that peace and unity were the key values that needed to be strengthened and promoted in their communities.
