It is estimated to increase to K542 million by 2029.
He said the police department had 7,383 staff members.
“The majority of them are employed in public safety (54 per cent), specialist staff (around 20 per cent), investigations staff (13 per cent), public servants (10 per cent) and prosecution (3 per cent).
The total training cost is about K34 million.
Tsiamalili said the training element accounted for 65 per cent of the costs, with capacity building accounting for 30 per cent and the remainder allocated for recruitment.
“Training includes new recruits, specialist staff, investigations and prosecutions staff, and refresher training for all staff, recruitment and capacity building,” he said.
“An estimated 400 staff per annum attending new recruit training, 5 per cent of staff attending refresher training and 615 staff attending specialist training in investigation, prosecution, water police, K9, traffic police, air wing and public service staff.”
“Estimated training costs range from K12, 000 to K20,600 per participant. Based on per unit training costs, total training costs estimated at K34 million,” he said.
