AS a major investor, the Rimbunan Hijau (RH) Group recognises its major obligation to give back to communities in countries it operates in, RH Group chairman Tan Sri Datuk Sir Tiong Hiew King says.
Sir Tiong was speaking during the opening of The Stanley Hotel and Suites in Port Moresby last night. It cost K400 million.
“This hotel represents the latest major investment that Rimbunan Hijau has made in Papua New Guinea,” he said.
“Rimbunan Hijau has always been committed to long-term development in Papua New Guinea for more than 25 years.
“We have brought other opportunities to remote parts of the country in close partnership with the Government.
“We have created new opportunities all over Papua New Guinea.
“We have grown and have diversified in many areas of the economy.
“Not only have we built the biggest retail operator (Vision City) in Papua New Guinea, we are developing one of the biggest oil palm plantations in the country.
“We have invested in the transport sector, airline and shipping service.
“We now employ more than 10,000 Papua New Guineans.”
He said The Stanley Hotel and Suites would bring additional direct investment as well.
“The Stanley Hotel alone will attract more than 600 direct jobs,” Sir Tiong said.
“With The Stanley Hotel and Suites, we have provided world-class accommodation to the people of Papua New Guinea and to overseas visitors.
“The Stanley is a five-start luxurious hotel – but it is also more than that.
“It will also be the city’s newest tourist attraction.
“It will also be a weekend getaway for people from all over PNG and the Pacific.”
The 18-storey five-star hotel has 429 luxury hotel rooms, four restaurants, three bars, 24-hour room service, parking for 500 vehicles, access to the Vision City Mega Mall, a pool deck with three pools, a 24-hour fitness centre and sauna, and an executive lounge.
The opening of The Stanley Hotel and Suites was attended by heads of diplomatic missions, cabinet ministers, representatives of business houses, friends of RH and dignitaries.
