Capital Rugby Union clubs Nova and Harlequins were gifted a K44,000 sponsorship from the National Capital District (NCD) Commission to compete in this week’s Douglas Guise sevens tournament in Kavieng, New Ireland.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop while paying respect to Guise, who passed away in January, said the sponsorship was to recognise late Guise’s work with rugby union in Port Moresby and the country.
“We all shared in the pain of his loss but we must remember his legacy to support the two teams,” he said.
Meanwhile, union president Kori Chan said the two clubs had played big roles in the late Guise’s club and representative career.
“We’re honoured to have Harlequins where Douglas started his career as a 14-year-old in 1994 and the club that he formed 10 years ago which is Nova.
“One of the things that stood out for Douglas in my recollection of him was the passion he had for developing youths.”
