GULF Governor Havila Kavo is throwing his weight behind the entry of a team into the National Soccer League (NSL) competition.

He did that through the payment of K45,000 from its public relations funds from Petroleum Resources Kutubu (PRK) that would go towards paying the registration fee for the Erema Gulf FC to enter the 2015 NSL.

“The people of Gulf Province now have two sporting teams playing at the elite level in the country,” Kavo said.

He said the Isapea are slowly getting a foothold in the country’s premier Digicel Cup rugby league competition and now they are breaking new barriers again.

“Gulf Province has produced star players in the past and are not new to the game, but we just need to retrace our steps again to show to our young people of today that we can excel in soccer as well,” he said.

Kavo said sports is an avenue to promote a healthy life-style and he is just doing his part to promote rural talent.

“Look out for the sea-gull (Erema),” Kavo said.
