GOROKA town’s Seigu Street has become the latest to be sealed, thanks to funding from Goroka MP Aiye Tambua.
“Seigu Street was left at the mercy of nature to deteriorate at the negligence of successive responsible authorities,” resident Dickson Gene said.
He said the road may have been last sealed in the ’70s but was not attended to in terms of regular maintenance until Tambua came into office.
“We have been waiting for a long time until today, we are getting a sealed road, I thank the MP and his Goroka Development Authority (GDDA) or making it possible,” he said. Tambua provided K5 million through GDDA that covered Seigu, PX Street, Pisswara and Minogere Barracks Street, according to GDDA chief executive officer Benson Imara.
He said work progress was on schedule and Seigu Street section was sealed and getting a much-needed facelift.
“As the ongoing Goroka urban road sealing programme moves to East Goroka streets of Seigu, PX, Piswara and Minogere Police Barracks, GDDA invests K4.99 million for upgrade and sealing of 1,760m stretch of the road,” he said.
Imara said GDDA has focused on permanent infrastructure projects for the first two years with one of them being the upgrade and sealing of all urban and rural roads in the district.
“In the first two to three years, all the roads in Goroka will be sealed, we are also in the process of sealing the North Goroka Road from Okiyufa village,” he said.
He said the North Goroka sealing is valued at K5 million for nearly 3km undertaken by Rodcliffe Construction.
Imara said the project was approved and cleared by the State Solicitors Office as required by the National Procurement Commission.
