K5,000 for school’s fees

THE parliamentary referral committee on education will get to the
bottom of issues creating discrepancies in teachers’ salaries and leave entitlements, committee deputy chairman and Goilala MP Daniel Mona says.
He said this when presenting a cheque for K5,000 to NCD’s Kilakila Secondary School administration to subsidise projects fees for Goilala students.
The committee was set up to look into complaints by teachers regarding their salaries, leave entitlements and other   welfare issues.
Mona said it was time to find remedies for the long-standing issues.
“We will get to the bottom of this.
“If heads are to roll, we will not hesitate,” he said
Mona said teachers were at the core of the development of human resources and should not be deprived of their privileges.
“The issues are long standing and have been occurring year after year.
“We will go on our fact-finding mission and try to fix the issue once and for all.”
Mona said the nationwide inquiry was expected to begin soon.
“We are waiting for the speaker’s office to release funds.
“As soon as that is done, we will commence on the inquiry.”
Mona said the committee intended to meet with school administrations as well as students around the country to get to the core of the issues.
The committee comprises Wabag MP Robert Ganim as the chairman, Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso, Sandaun Governor Amkat Mai and Jimi MP Mai Dop.
