MADANG can become the leading hive of soccer in the country, Police Minister and Madang open MP Nixon Duban says.
Duban made the comment when presenting K50,000 to the Madang Soccer Association for its 2013 calendar events.
The presentation was made in front of a large crowd.
The money will go towards soccer for men and women Under-17 and U20 in June and July in Port Moresby and the Besta competition in Lae.
Duban said he wanted soccer in Madang to improve and he would continue to support sports in the province.
He said sports always contributed meaningfully to the development of youths and  helped youth steer clear of illegal activities like drinking homebrew and smoking marijuana.
“I want to develop and make Madang as the destination for soccer in the country and to host some big tournaments in the future,” Duban said.
He commended the MSA president, Siegfried Beschel for his tireless efforts in promoting soccer in the province.
Duban called on the other Madang MPs to support sports in the province to keep youths busy.
