THE Lae school of nursing at the University of Technology will soon have a multi-purpose hall to host events such as graduations after years of using makeshift tents.
Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu announced an initial contribution of K500,000 from the provincial government through his office on Friday.
“With this money, the contractor will lay the foundation and then let us know how much more is needed to complete the project,” he said.
Saonu said the timing of the ground-breaking was timely for next year’s budget so that any shortfalls could be accommodated. “The idea is to make a start now instead of just talking,” he said.
“The total value of the project will be known when it’s completed.”
Acting school principal Pauline Bomareo said the building would be a graduation hall but would also cater for the student representative council, ancillary staff lockers and host multi-purpo.
Bomareo said it would also be a source of revenue for the institution.
The multi-purpose hall will be built by a local company – Morobe Procurement Solutions Ltd.
