EDUCATION Minister Jimmy Uguro says K50 million of the K120 million for the second quarter school fee subsidy has been released.
The Government Tuition Fee Subsidy (GTFS) for 2021 is more than K486 million.
“The Government has already released K123 million in January for subsidy,” Uguro told The National.
“For the second quarter, another K120 million has been earmarked for the year, the warrant for K50 million has been released to the Central Bank.
“And once it is released to the commercial banks, we will send a listing of schools to the banks.
“The money will be put into the individual school accounts.
“I want all schools and teachers to not fret about the monies.
“We are working to ensure the monies are paid into the schools.
“This is to ensure education is affordable and children go to school.”
The policy, which subsidies the cost of education, aims to share the burden of school fees with parents and the State and has a total funding of K486,351,600.
GTFS has two components – school operations and functional grant of K389mil (80 per cent) and a commodity component of K97mil (20 per cent).
