THE Silanga health centre in Talasea, West New Britain (WNB), will undergo a K5 million facelift in an effort to improve the healthcare services to some 20,000 people, a doctor says.
WNB health authority (PHA) chairman Dr Mathias Sapuri said the level two health facility was run by the Catholic church, a major partner of the government in health service delivery, but had been in a run-down state.
Dr Sapuri said it was one of the facilities earmarked for rehabilitation under the PHA’s infrastructure development plan and the provincial government would support this redevelopment in partnership with New Britain Palm Oil Ltd under the tax credit scheme. He said the project was expected to take four months to be completed and work would start as soon as funding was made available.
“The new facelift is a huge welcome relief for patients, staff and community,” he said.
“It will include improvements to the maternity wing, administration section, out-patient and general wards as well as installation of essential services.”
