A TOTAL of K6 million has been allocated for road construction for two major road projects in West Sepik, administrator Conrad Tilau says.
“The provincial government has allocated K3 million each to upgrade the 148km Aitape-Vanimo road and the 86km Tabubil-Telefomin road,” he said.
Tilau said the Vanimo-Aitape road was accessible and the road’s upgrading was in the provincial government’s plan.
“When Governor Tony Wouwou came in, he pushed for road linkages from Vanimo town to other districts such as Lumi, Nuku, Bewani and Telefomin,” the administrator said.
“His (Wouwou) aim is to open the Vanimo-Aitape road and K3 million has already been spent to open up access as the road was covered with bush after it was neglected for a long time.
“Now we are upgrading the road by putting gravel on it.”
Tilau said yesterday that they had allocated K3 million for the Tabubil-Telefomin road.
“The road from Telefomin is much easier linked with Tabubil in Western.
“But linking the road to Vanimo will be much harder and expensive because of the distance and terrain.”
“We aim to help people access services and business opportunities through the roads,” the administrator said.
