A  PUBLIC motor vehicle owner has paid K80,000, two cows and a vehicle as compensation to

the relatives of a man killed in a fight.

Maita Yawi of Lae said he had done his part in paying the compensation and appealed to the public to respect bus owners for the public service they provided.

Marceline Nagombi died and his brother Ronald Nagombi is still admitted at the Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae after the fight at the East Taraka bus stop two weeks ago.

It was triggered off by an attack on Yawi’s bus and crew.

The Nagombis from Yangoru-Sausia in East Sepik suffered body and head injuries. Police are investigating the incident.

Kagua council president Rali Kawane from Southern Highlands handed over the cash and vehicle to Kimson Kare on behalf of the deceased’s family.

Community policing officer Sergeant Alois Gabuol led mediation talks at the Lae central police station last Sunday.

Yawi said the vehicle cost K135,000.

“I have done my part. Whoever creates further issues later must meet all the costs,” Yawi said.

He appealed to the people to refrain from throwing items at the vehicles, drivers and crews.

“PMV owners spend thousands to buy buses to provide a public transport service, plus meeting the cost of fuel and maintenance every week,” he said.

“The Government has to come down hard on those culprits who never respect other people’s properties like PMV buses.”
