Kabwum to give infrastructure priority

Kabwum district has prioritised infrastructure this year with a 10 per cent increase in its budget.
MP Patrick Basa said the purpose was to reduce the cost of airfreight which consumed a lot of the district’s DSIP funding and had crippled the district’s effort in implementing development agendas.
In the past years, the sector was given only 30 per cent allocation, but this year, the authority board removed five per cent each from the law and justice and the economic sectors and added them into the infrastructure sector, raising it to 40 per cent.
“Freight charges have been a major concern to the administration, affecting the service delivery of the district and KDDA had to act now for the betterment of its people in years to come and future administration of Kabwum,” Basa said.
“The KDDA is aiming at connecting three isolated LLG headquarters of Komba LLG in Satwag, Bungawat in the Yus local-level government and Deyamos LLG in Yalumet Station as well as the eventual connection of the Kabwum district with Lae and the whole of Morobe.”
