JOHN Kali, who is taking up the post of high commissioner to Australia, says he will continue to foster the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The former Personnel Management Secretary said Australia and PNG had a long relationship dating back to the Second World War.
“It started 75 years ago when our people fought side by side to defend our country. Following that they sent people to come and administer our country,” he said.
“And then they sent their people again to come and look after the education system of our country. So we have been blessed with the support of Australia.
“So I’m truly honored to take up this position to be the high commissioner to Australia.”
Kali thanked the Government for having confidence in him.
“I think it is considered the most important foreign mission to PNG because of our very close relationship with our closest neighbour,” he said.
“But, more importantly, because of the amount of support that the Australian Government is giving to PNG and continues to give and the vast networking that is taking place between the people of Australia and the people of PNG for years.”
