TEAM Western Highlands executives have been urged to start planning and get things organised for the PNG Games in November.

Former team general manager Simon Kama raised the concern after realising that there were no signs of preparations for the Games, with only eight months to go.

He said eight months was too short for conducting meetings and making arrangements.

Kama said under the PNG Games charter, competitions had to be held in the local level governments and then at the provincial level for team selections to be made.

But Kama said he was confused as Team Western Highlands was not getting things done.

“There are supposed to be some meetings held, starting today, because the team is running behind time.

“It will not be proper for Team Western Highlands to only show face with with a contingent to the Games and not compete seriously,” Kama said.

He said was the onus on the executives to get the team organised and plan for the Games to be held in Kimbe, West New Britain.

Kama said it was not a funding issue but an administration issue that was causing the delay.

“There has to be some form of arrangement done starting now.

“Team Western Highlands is late in getting organised,” he said.

He said it would not be good if Western Highlands attended the Games merely to make numbers and not participating to return worthwhile results.

“If we do not perform well, then how can we explain it to the people?

“Team Western Highlands is the provincial team — carrying the flag and the hopes of the people of the province,” Kama said.

Several attempts to contact Team Western Highlands chairman Steven Moka for comment yesterday were unsuccessful.
