Minister for Public Service Elias Kapavore is keen to address issues of time-keeping and attendance by public servants.
Speaking at a ceremony to take over the ministry from former minister Sir Puka Temu yesterday, Kapavore said there were plans to have these issues addressed.
The initiative will be piloted in the Central Government Offices with departments including Foreign Affairs, Personnel Management, Justice and Attorney-General (community-based justice) and Immigrations, Agriculture and Livestock.
The five departments will be targeted in time-keeping and attendance which will be tied directly to the Allesco payroll system.
Kapavore urged public servants to make a difference in delivering services to the people.
“I appeal to all our staff to be loyal to your jobs and perform your tasks,” he said.
“You are employed by the Government and you have a responsibility to perform to your best as required by the state.”
“We must believe in ourselves, shrug off the negativity and encourage each other to make a difference.
“We are progressing as a nation and we must continue to believe in each other from the political level to the public service and everyone else down the line.
“We must continue to serve our people without any political influence, fear or favour.
“We must continue to do our jobs as loyal Papua New Guineans to serve and believe in our people.”
