FORMER National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) managing director Memafu Kapera has apologised for the “inconvenience and uncertainty” caused by the rift between the board and management.

He said this after the National Court dismissed abuse of office charges against NBC board chairman Timothy Tala yesterday.

“The NBC management respects and noted the decision of the court acquitting the chairman of the board of NBC on lack of evidence,” Kapera said.

“The management agrees with the court that the recordings of the board meetings are the property of the NBC.

“However, the management could not produce the evidence containing the recordings because, at the time the matter went to trial, the recordings were not in the possession of the management.

“For that reason, the (board) chairman was acquitted for lack of evidence.

“Now that the allegations have been resolved by the court, the management has accepted it and is ready and willing, as it has always been, to re-engage and work with the board, the minister and the Government by progressing the ongoing reforms at the NBC.

“On behalf of the management and as the acting head of the NBC, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise to stakeholders, partners and importantly the hardworking staff across the country for the period of inconvenience and uncertainty we have all gone through in the last year.”
