CONVICTED rapist and prison escapee William  Nanua Kapris is fearing for his life following the withdrawal of seven Correctional Services personnel guarding him.
Kapris is on trial in Madang as the alleged mastermind behind the Bank South Pacific Madang branch robbery.
He said that his safety was at risk when The National  enquired about the lack of security personnel guarding the courthouse unlike when the case started where heavy the presence of both police and CS officers could be seen and felt.
A CS officer only shrugged and said: “I do not know but there must be no money.”
Another said the seven had gone ahead to pave way for the Kerema hearing.
The reports could not be confirmed with CS headquarters at the time of this going to print but The National understands that the seven men who had received specialist training from the Goldie River Warrior training unit in heavy asset protection, were handpicked by their superiors .
Kapris when approached on this yesterday said: “I am very much afraid for my life as I will be naming prominent people. I see this as a move by certain individuals in power who want these strong men removed to weaken the security wall so that they can penetrate.
“This trial  is of public interest and the fact that the government has spent a lot of money to see or hear me testify, they need me alive. They must raise the security here.”
